Why you work the work you are working now?

Posted by: Leo on: July 14, 2009

Have you ever stop and think sometimes, why you work the work you are working now? As a new and young engineer, this question hit me almost every time I go eat Char Koay Teow (fried Koay Teow). Averagely a young engineer in Penang will get the pay of RM2500 to RM2800, let’s calculate how the Char Koay Teow hawker earns. One Char Koay Teow costs about RM3.50, and he can earn about RM2.50 from it. A day he can sell about 200 plates, which means he can earn about RM500 a day. Let’s say he only worked 20 days per month (5 days per week), he can earn RM10000!!! That’s about 4 times more than what I earn!

So, why I still continue my work? Why not go fried Char Koay Teow? If you work to earn money, I will suggest you go do something that actually earn a lot why you might not like to do. But, I am the kind of guy like to do what I like to do and make it my bread and butter. It might not be prosperous, but I will enjoy what I do, at least!

Please, please, please… Don’t force me to do something I do not like!!!

Running Linux apps in Windows

Posted by: Leo on: July 2, 2009

I am currently trying to run Linux applications in Windows (the motivation behind it will be discussed in greater details, this post only acts as a check point to remind myself the research I done on the internet).

Besides running virtualization software such as VMWare, VirtualBox, Virtual PC, etc, there are some others ways, such as emulation layer-Cygwin, and also the latest I found from web, using CoLinux.

I not so sure what CoLinux is, which I will found out later, but there are two more packages using it as a core, i.e. andLinux and Ulteo Virtual Desktop. Both of them only simplify the setup of CoLinux, and added in a few features.

Ubuntu also comes out with Windows installer style, which allow the users to use Ubuntu with Windows, it is called as Wubi.

I will focus more on CoLinux (and its derivatives) and Wubi, as I tried the rest before. The virtualization software are too slow for me, and I am facing quite a number of problem in using Cygwin. The next few weeks will be focus on CoLinux, and see how it actually works out.

Twitter

Posted by: Leo on: June 29, 2009

Twitter.comOkay, I must admit that I am quite out of date, cause only until today I know what the heck is a Twitter. I came across this term this morning while reading the newspaper, only to know that most of the people now “twit” rather than “blog”. So, I go and find out what is a Twitter.

So, what is a Twitter? It is kind of like a social networking web apps, which can be used to shout out to all your friends of what you are doing, or get to know of what are your friends doing. It can be said like a broadcasting station, once you post up a short message within 150 characters, all those following your twit get to know, or all those who are in Twitter get to know.

I find this is a cool web apps which actually can be used for advertising and also promoting something. I am now trying to combine Twitter with “Twitterfeed”, which actually helped me to post a short shout out to the Twitter that I have updated my blog. Cool huh?!

twitterfeedI surely recommend all those to try out Twitter, at least to be in the line with the current internet trend! I am going to “twit” now, bye!

A new kid on the block

Posted by: Leo on: June 21, 2009

Though 4 years of studies in the ivory tower, I am totally not prepared for the big industry ocean. Browsing through all the professional websites, just to realize that i still have a lot to learn, but I don’t have any starting point. I guess the best would be to choose what interested me most, but, I still haven’t explore all the area, I can’t be sure which caught my interest the most.

I think I should start from what I know the most, digital design, then explore the analog side and the microelectronic side in the mean while. The other thing which I should pick up would be project management. I really suck at management, project wise or time. Hence, learning some skill of management would be beneficial to me.

Well, hope that my journey in the big ocean will be a peaceful one.

Training… training… training….

Posted by: Leo on: June 15, 2009

Look’s like it is almost half month I joined the corporation, but, I have done nothing on what the corporation is doing, as I am attending the training provided (which will last for one and a half month). I’ll still be missing from my cubicle for at least one month.

I kinda disappointed, as I expect the training not to be arranged in such a pack schedule and at least allow us to go back to the office to relate back to what we are/will be doing. Maybe due to the economy down times, there aren’t much for us to do, so we are sent for this training.

However, I try to focus as much as possible, and I found that this training is quite good for me to re-polish the rusted skill and motivated me to learn much more new things.

When the training ends, hopefully I gained enough for me to do some works, provided there are some for me to do.

A new phone!

Posted by: Leo on: June 8, 2009

And so, I get a new phone. After browsing for quite a number of phones, I finally chosen Nokia 5130 XpressMusic. The price was quite ok, only RM450 when I bought it. The music player though not as good as SE w-series, but, it was more than enough for me! Basically, it fulfilled all my needs of a cell phone, with a nice PIM (personal information management). I will recommend to all those who would like to buy a low price phone with basic function and have a taste of groove sometime!

A thought on “absolute” on-time

Posted by: Leo on: June 3, 2009

This morning I was late to work, according to the clock in my car, but based on the time shown on my watch, I was on-time. So, there are two possibilities, one is that my watch is moving slow, or, the clock in my car is moving fast. Then something hit my mind (I usually have this kind of ‘hit-in-the-mind’ madness), how do I make sure which clock shows the most accurate time?!

So I compared with the time shown in my girl friend’s cell phone, the time in her cell phone is faster than both the clock in the car and my watch! The issue re-appear again, is that her problem or mine? So, where is the absolute time in this world? Some clock tower in KL? How are you so sure that the clock tower is accurate then?

From the argument, I can almost say that there is no absolute time, and no one can be sure to be absolute on-time, as the ‘time’ he or she referenced to is only relevant to himself or herself. Get the idea? Next time maybe you can use this argument when you are late, hahaha!

Start to work

Posted by: Leo on: June 2, 2009

Today was the second day of my work life. Nothing pretty much has changed since I left for internship. The people there are still pretty cool. Maybe I am expecting too much.

The main problem is that I am not seeing the future in this organization. just felt that I won’t be staying long. In a conclusion, today is just another tired day, tired of nothing to do and get bored and sleepy.

Fortunately will have training starting tomorrow, at least get to do something and not to be so bored.
